2015 WA Electricity Price increases announced
The Western Australian government has announced increases to WA electricity prices as part of the state budget to be handed down on the 14th May 2015.
The increase in WA electricity prices will apply to all residences and businesses on gazetted tariffs in Perth and the South West of Western Australia who are supplied by Synergy as well as those supplied outside the South West by Horizon Power.
A1 Residential Tariff | 4.5%
C1 Community and Charitable Organisations | 4.5%
L1/L2 Small Business | 4.5%
R1 Small Business Time of Use | 4.5%
L3/L4 Medium Business | 5.7%
R3 Medium Business Time of Use | 6.1%
M1/M2 Large Business | 10.4%
S1 Large Business Low Voltage | 13.1%
T1 Large Business High Voltage | 6.2% |
The figure subject to the most attention will be Synergy's A1 Electricity Tariff which covers most households in Western Australia (the WA state government has flagged opening up the residential market to competition in 2018 but until then residential customers do not have a choice of electricity retailers in WA). The State Government had previously flagged dramatically increasing fixed charges but now appears to have backed away from this move.
Many businesses in WA on gazetted electricity tariffs will also be awaiting the changes their electricity tariffs that will also be announced in the budget. In 2014 gazetted contestable electricity tariffs for business in Perth and Western Australia increased by 10%.
Businesses consuming more than 50MWhs of electricity per year (around $12,000 in annual spend) so have a choice of Electricity providers in WA. Infinite Energy offers an alternative in this part of the market through its WA Electricity Retail Business Blue Star Energy and offering Solar PPA solutions via its Commercial Solar business.
