100kw Solar Power System at DIAB in Geraldton, WA
DIAB Engineering in Geraldton, Western Australia has recently taken a massive step towards securing their solar future. And we’re proud to have been an integral part of it.
One of our most significant projects to date, we not only installed, but designed their 100kw commercial solar power system. Consisting of 416 solar panels and 6 SMA Sunny Tripower inverters, it’s an investment guaranteed to reap incredible benefits.
Non-export features
Installing a system of this size is not without its challenges. Due to Western Power’s strict requirements for systems of this nature, ‘non-export’ features were an integral part of the design.
A special load following non-export system monitors electricity consumption on the site, as well as solar production in real time. This allows the system to adjust the output of the inverters to ensure the system doesn’t produce more electricity than required.
Not only that, monitoring and control of the inverters, protection and optimisation systems can be carried out remotely, and a GreenSense monitoring platform displays solar production, site consumption, temperatures, irradiance and other vital system/environmental information.
Funding
It’s fair to assume installing a system of this size comes with a hefty price tag. But thanks to Federal Government funding, DIAB Geraldton have recovered more than 60% of the total project cost.
Helping manufacturers invest in energy efficient capital equipment and low-emission technologies, the Federal Government’s Clean Technology Investment Program provided 50% of funds required for the array.
Further funding was provided under the Solar Credits Scheme, with DIAB reducing the overall system cost by claiming the value of the renewable energy certificates attached to the system.
What this means for your business
According to our partner Energy Matters, even without Clean Technology Investment Program funding, Australian businesses can still receive significant benefits from solar power. For businesses paying more than 20 cents/kWh for their daytime electricity usage, a system designed to service their daytime consumption can be paid off within 5 to 7 years.
